About 40 Acres

40 ACRES A World Premiere Written by Jim Shores (Asbury Faculty Member) & Directed By Harvey Johnson

Winner of a Calvin Institute Worship Grant and a Creo Arts grant to help launch its first production here at Asbury.

When the MacIntosh family joins Cornerstone Church in their new Dallas suburb, they discover an unexpected connection to the church's history that challenges everyone's understanding of faith, community, and what it means to truly live as Christians.

This thought-provoking drama follows two families—one Black, one white—as they navigate questions of belonging, justice, and reconciliation within their church community. As uncomfortable truths emerge and tensions rise, both families must examine whether their faith calls them to something deeper than Sunday morning politeness.

A powerful heartfelt exploration of how authentic Christian living requires courage, honesty, and the willingness to act on our beliefs even when it's difficult.

This production contains mature themes and frank discussions about race and faith. The play includes one scene involving a firearm.**
