Director of Choirs
Ian Tapson
Ian Tapson is presently in his fifteenth year of teaching and his seventh year serving as the choral director at Lake Minneola High School in Minneola, Florida, where he conducts five choirs, teaches AP Music Theory, and assists as music director for the Birds of Play Musicals. His choirs regularly perform in the community and beyond and in various invitational and auditioned honor choirs. .Although his students tend to perform well at District and State events, he is most proud of the community his students have maintained where all voices are heard and welcome. A native of Missouri, Ian earned his Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education in 2010 and his Master’s degree in Educational Administration in 2013, both from Missouri State University. During his time at the university, he was an active performer in the MSU Concert Chorale, Opera Workshop, and Chamber Singers, as well as a participant in the Springfield Regional Opera Young Artist Program. In addition to his teaching duties, he finds joy in performing with the Festival Singers of Florida and contributes to various roles within the Florida American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the Florida Vocal Association, and his local district. Ian has been married to Jamie Tapson since 2010 and is the proud father of two wonderful children, Aria and Camden.

Brantley West
Brantley West is a tubist and music educator from Leesburg, Florida. Brantley earned his bachelor's degree of Music Education from Florida State University in 2020. While there, he performed in the University Wind Ensemble, the World-Renowned Marching Chiefs, the Tuba & Euphonium Ensemble, the Symphonic Band, and several chamber ensembles including the Sinfonian Brass Quintet, Phi Mu Alpha Men's Choir, and the Artes Tuba Quartet. Brantley served 2 years on leadership with the Marching Chiefs, where he worked as a section leader and staff member, respectively.

Director of Technical Theatre
Mike Tarquine
Mike Tarquine is in his 19th year teaching in Lake County, and his first year as part of the Lake Minneola High School Performing Arts team. His addition to the team has elevated the already dynamic performances of both music programs by enhancing the entire experience from the entrance into the lobby to the sound and light in the theatre. Mr. Tarquine has a BFA in Theatre Performance with a minor in Theatre Business Administration from the University of Central Florida. An ASCAP composer, Mr. T. has worked in the music industry as a composer, vocal arranger and vocal coach for many of the groups that made Central Florida the boyband capital of the world. Additionally, Mr. T, has worked as stage manager for live stage productions at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando. For the last 18 years, Mr. T has served as the choir and theatre director at Windy Hill Middle School, building the largest and most profitable middle school program in the county, earning both Rookie Teacher and Teacher of the Year Finalist Awards. He is proudly supported by his wife Amy, and daughters Alexa, Jordyn and Skylar .

Lake Minneola Performing Arts

The performing arts team at Lake Minneola High School is dedicated to providing outstanding opportunities for students to shine on stage and in the community. Ian Tapson leads a thriving choral program, teaching chorus and AP Music Theory. His choirs regularly perform at community events, festivals, and honor choirs, showcasing their talent and hard work. Brantley West directs the band program, which features a strong marching and jazz ensemble that consistently excels in competitions and performs at a variety of community and invitational events. Kaitlin Derbyshire, alongside technical theatre director Mike Tarquine, brings theatre, musical theatre, and dance to life with five dynamic productions each year, including musicals, one-acts, children’s shows, and straight plays. Together, this team fosters creativity, passion, and excellence in the arts.
