It Shoulda Been You Cast

Jenny Steinberg (Amber Breault-Albain)
Amber is so happy to be making her Black Swamp Players debut! Since everything came to a screeching halt in 2020, Amber has spent most of her time at home with her amazing husband, Jeremy, and mischievous cat, Marty, or exploring Toledo’s Metroparks, so much that she now works there full-time on the Customer Service Team! As things have begun to safely resume, Amber has been fortunate enough to hit the ground running, performing in Toledo Rep.’s Shout! The Mod Musical (Red Girl), Waterville Playshop’s Godspell (Judas), All Together Now!, a collaboration between 3B Productions and The Village Players, and 3B Production’s The Drowsy Chaperone (Gangster #2). Immediately following It Shoulda Been You, Amber will be jumping into her next endeavors, Footloose (Ethel McCormick) and Little Shop of Horrors (Ensemble), both at The Croswell Opera House in Adrian, MI. Thank you to Inge, Teresa, Deb, Brittany, Lane, and the rest of the wonderful cast and crew for all of the hours you have dedicated to our show.
Judy Steinberg (Beth Giller)
Beth Giller is making her second appearance with Black Swamp, previously playing the tipsy Chaperone in The Drowsy Chaperone in 2020. Past roles include Mimi Schwinn (the overbearing mother in Perrysburg Musical Theatre's production of A New Brain), the child-hating Baroness in Oregon Community Theatre's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the creepy narrator Ladahlord in James and the Giant Peach at Spotlight Studios in Monroe, MI, and various other women who are sort of irritating. By day, I am actually a pretty nice person and serve as a pastor at St. Mark Lutheran Church in East Toledo. Many thanks to my husband for actually playing my husband, and to my two uber-talented and kind daughters, Anna and Katie.
Mimsy/Aunt Sheila (Emily Harel)
Emily Harel is thrilled to be involved in her first theater production and making her debut as Mimsy/Aunt Sheila at Black Swamp Players. Being a Jewish woman who has a younger sister getting married and a crazy Jewish family, she relates closely to the show. Typically an audience member, she switched gears to be a cast member, while still working at the Area Office on Aging. Emily wants to thank her coworkers, friends, family, and castmates for all of the support and love. Emily hopes you enjoy this hilarious and heartwarming comedy.
Walt/Uncle Morty (Andrew Varney)
Andrew is delighted to be in his 13th show with BSP (and 26th show overall since high school). When not on stage, Andrew works nights at Rapid Fired Pizza. In addition to theater, Andrew's other hobbies include visiting libraries, visiting parks, and listening to music. Finally, Andrew would like to thank his parents as well as the cast and crew of this show for letting him be involved in community theater once more, and Andrew hopes you enjoy this fun-filled romantic comedy!!!!
Murray Steinberg (Hans Giller)
Hans is excited to be performing for his first time with Black Swamp Players. He is having fun playing Murray Steinberg, a dad of two girls. (Hans is also a dad of two girls.) He was seen on stage recently in The Little Mermaid with Oregon Community Theater with his two daughters and his dog. He has been in several shows including M*A*S*H, West Side Story, Becky’s New Car, Spamalot, Shrek, and Annie four times as his dog Ozzy’s handler. Hans has enjoyed getting to know some new theater friends in this show and loves being back on stage with his actual wife, Beth (playing his theater wife, Judy, in this show). He would like to thank Beth for always encouraging and supporting him in this theatrical journey. Beth and his girls are the reasons that Hans got into theater in the first place so performing with them is always a pleasure. I thank you for supporting local theater. I am also very grateful for old and new friends who are here to see the show! I hope you enjoy this show about love, relationships, dreams, decisions, parents, and friends — and that’s Family!
Rebecca Steinberg (Alyx Fisher)
Alyx is a BGSU alumnus with a major in musical theatre. Alyx has previously been in shows such as Mr. Burns, The Sound of Music, and South Pacific. She has worked with Black Swamp Players before as well in The Secret Garden. Alyx is thankful and excited to be able to participate in this show with this amazing cast and crew!
Brian Howard (Jeffrey Bartlett)
This is Jeffrey's first show with Black Swamp Players. He began studying classical voice in North Carolina while serving in the Marine Corps for almost a decade. Jeffrey most recently performed in a production of Chicago with Cutting Edge Theatre Company, The Bride Elect with The Comic Opera Guild in Ann Arbor, and with University of Toledo's Opera ensemble.
Greg Madison (Noah Halaoui)
Making his debut back onto the stage, Noah Halaoui has been trained in classical singing for over 10 years and in jazz for almost six years. Picking up after almost a five-year hiatus, Noah is back to singing and acting and ready to give you a night to remember!
Annie Shepard (Ebere Okoro)
After a near two-year hiatus from the stage, Ebere is very excited to be playing Annie in this production of It Shoulda Been You! Though she has been away from the stage for a few years, this isn’t her first show with Black Swamp Players. She previously played Sylvie in BSP’s production of The Odd Couple (Female Version). Ebere would like to thank her friends for their support throughout this journey. She would especially like to thank her partner Noah Halaoui for making this experience that much more special.
Alberta (Becca Martin)
Becca Martin returns to the stage after a five-year hiatus as Alberta. This is her second production with Black Swamp Players, where she assisted directed The Odd Couple (Female Version). Previously she has directed Spring Awakening with Issue Box Theatre, had her play A Mouth to Feed performed with the Toledo Repertoire Theatre, and partnered with the Children’s Theatre Workshop to bring theatre to youth in local parks. Becca’s next project is continuing to draft her new play Sorrow and Succession: Recollections of Grief, which focuses on grief and healing within our community. She hopes you enjoy the show and that she can continue to serve!
Georgette Howard (Cyndy Brookover)
Cyndy is very excited to be playing the part of Georgette Howard (Mother of the Groom)! You may have recently seen Cyndy in Black Swamp’s Talking With (Handler) and August: Osage County (Johnna). Some of her other favorites have been Toledo Rep’s A Christmas Carol (Mrs. Fezziwig), Waterville Playshop’s Addam’s Family (Alice Beineke), Croswell Opera House’s production of Music Man (Mrs. Paroo) and Sister Act (nun ensemble), and Waterville Playshop’s Footloose (Ethel McCormack). Thanks, BSP, for keeping this girl busy during the past 12 months (and mostly out of trouble). And a big thank you to Steve for your never-ending love and support of this crazy love/hobby of mine! Mazel Tov!!
George Howard (Heath A. Diehl)
Heath is excited to be playing George (Father/Buddy of the Groom!) as part of this talented cast. Look for him as part of an equally talented ensemble this May in BSP’s production of Anna Deavere Smith’s Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992. Previous acting credits include: Herb in I Ought To Be In Pictures (BSP); Edward in Psych (BSP); Mr. Boddy in Clue: The Musical (BSP); and Father Thane in A Perfect Wedding (BGSU). Heath also enjoys directing; credits include: August: Osage County (BSP); The Guys (TBD Productions); The Drowsy Chaperone (BSP); Gidion’s Knot (TBD Productions); A Mouth to Feed (Toledo Rep); and The Odd Couple (Female Version) (BSP). When not treading the boards, Heath is active in the community. He currently serves as Board President of Black Swamp Players’ Board of Trustees and is recent past President of Wood County Humane Society’s Board of Directors; he also serves on the Board of Directors of Northwest Ohio Community Shares. In his professional life, Heath is Teaching Professor in the Honors College at BGSU. And in his spare time, Heath enjoys spending time with his husband, Gary, and their clowder of seven rescue cats.
Marty Kaufman (Nicholas Yates)
Nicholas Yates is excited to be back at the Oak Street Theater to play the character of Marty Kaufman. Currently, Nick is a first-year student at Bowling Green State University and is majoring in Adolescent to Young Adult Education in the subject of Integrated Social Studies. Nick has performed in multiple musicals in high school, including the lead role of Charlie Brown in a production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. Furthermore, he has performed with BSP in their production of Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!). He enjoys following motorsports of just about any kind and learning about ancient history. Nick would like to express his gratitude to director Inge Klopping for the opportunity to work with her in this production and he hopes that the audience has as much fun attending this show as the cast and crew had preparing it!
