About SpongeBob The Musical
Unlabeled Theatre Company is celebrating our one year anniversary with our third production, SPONGEBOB the MUSICAL. In typical UTC fashion, this version will be unlike any other you've seen on either television or on the stage. Get ready to experience our unique “shadow partner” staging model as we reimagine this contemporary classic.
When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. With songs written by such pop stars as David Bowie, Joe Perry, Cyndi Lauper, and John Legend, you'll be sure to leave the theatre humming.
Performed on the intimate Andy Boss Thrust Stage at Park Square Theatre in downtown St. Paul, you will feel immersed in the underwater world of Bikini Bottom created by our artists. Attending a UTC show is easy and accessible. There is plenty of parking around the theatre and numerous restaurants operate within walking distance and two are located in the same building as our performance.
Unlabeled Theatre Company
Here at Unlabeled, we believe in unified theatre performances. Why does the world insist on separate programming and institutions based on abilities and disabilities? Unlabeled is here to change that standard by casting shows with two people in almost every role. One artist - who has a cognitive and/or physical disability or is neurodivergent - is paired with a neurotypical “shadow partner." Together, they create their role and performance. Every partnership is different and unique.
Our mission is to use live theatre to provide performing, vocational and life skills opportunities for adults (18+) with disabilities.
The work of our organization models and helps create a more inclusive world. Unlabeled Theatre creates opportunities for theatre artists with disabilities, and for volunteers and community members, to experience what people with disabilities can do. Our productions allow people to truly be seen, and to be genuinely included.
As we celebrate our first year of making theatre, we wish to thank the following people for contributing their time and talents to our productions and to the growth our company: Josh Barnd & River Bottom Productions, Park Square Theatre, Heather Hammond (photography), Alex Wheeler (photography) Jordan Buckellew (photography), Suzanne Reyburn (vocal direction), Richard Graham (sound design), Shannon Elliot (lighting design), Hellmuth & Johnson PLLC,, Ann Morrison, the Northwestern College Theatre Department & the Northwestern College NEXT Program, James Rocco, Rubin Cordaro Design, Lindsey & Matthew Smith, (ushers), Kourtnee Baukol and Ella Williams (costume support), and True North Equity Partners. A very special thanks to our board members: Daron Dolynchuk, Peter Espinosa, Michele Landis, and Eric Molho. Shadow partners are at the heart of our staging concept, so we humbly thank the following performers for working as shadow partners in previous shows: Gerone Hamilton, Sofia Azmi, Gavin Anderson, Paul Reyburn, Nadya Dominique, Jacklyn Mack, Nancy Phinney, Eileen Metzger, Tom Allenburg, and Kate Wexler. Finally, thank you doesn't even seem enough to acknowledge the wonderful people at St. Peter's Church in Edina. You do more than provide us with a beautiful full-time rehearsal space - you support us every step of the way!
