About Once on This Island

Working on our first traditional musical since Singin' in the Rain which closed before opening two years ago has been a joy. Two years ago, we made it rain on stage, but no audience saw. When I chose this musical, I didn't realize there would be an opportunity for it to rain again, but there is, and we are. It's exciting to see my sophomore techie who made it rain two years ago make it rain his senior year especially as this is his last high school musical. This show is full of wonder and tells a tale of love and social construct. How much are you willing to give up for love? Who wins, the god of Love or the god of Death if you offer your life for your love's life. I've chosen an answer for myself and built it into the story, but I hope I've left room for you to decide. Did Ti Moune make a deal with the Devil (the god of Death) or with an angel (the god of Love). This is a rich show with many lessons about the complexity of societal constructs and the consequences of tradition. In this world, we are often asked what side of history we are on. I often wonder how you decide in a world so clearly divided with a waning ability to recognize that the world is not simply one or the other. We've lost the nuances of life in our bitter clinging to our own beliefs with no room for others. But, this production -I hope- will make you think and consider if there is a right or wrong - simply- with no room for both.  I hope you enjoy the show and it's wonderful music that will have you wanting to dance in the aisles, but I also hope you stop and consider the multiple meanings of the Story of Ti Moune.

We have one more production this year, our radio play that we had to postpone due to increases in Covid and our fickle January weather.  Vintage Hitchcock opens on May 5th and runs through May 7th. The show is still on this site. I hope you will come to the musical and the radio play. These kids are so excited to continue performing in front of a live audience.
