Playwright/Producer
Alex EmanuelAlex started Starna Productions in the early 2000s, named after his great-grandfather’s original name before it was changed to Stern (the immigration officers couldn’t understand what his grandfather was saying) when he came over to the U.S. from Eastern Europe in the early 1900s. His early projects were “Love Scenes and War Games,” a night of rock bands, and a puppet show called “Band Fights”. Starna held several screenplay and play readings, one at Oregon Shakespeare, and co-produced the ninety-nine song soundtrack for the occupy movement “Occupy this Album”. Starna co-produced the award winning independent feature film “The Incoherents”, now available on Amazon, for which a script is being adapted for episodic television. He's currently working on a documentary project by Starna about his father, legendary illustrator Robert Grossman. 2019 brought a book launch event at the Society of Illustrators for his father’s Eisner nominated graphic novel “Life on the Moon” and a handful of music videos for various artists. Last summer Alex's one-act play “Hallucy” enjoyed a sold-out extended run at the Chain Theatre. He plans to make a short film entitled “Runglish” later this summer and a short film adaptation of “Hallucy” soon after.
