About Godspell
Director's Note
At first glance, Godspell may look like a variety of things people may disagree with. From being too religious, to being blasphemous, it may be easy to disregard the play entirely on the basis that it is a story created from the teachings of Jesus Christ.
This is not unlike our interactions in life. How many times do we see an element of something that is not to our liking and completely disregard the rest? Too often we; as flawed human beings, neglect to look deeper than what might be on the surface.
This is likely the most diverse cast I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Many of them experienced similar attitudes when first learning about Godspell. Each of them, however, has individually chosen to seek out the good in these stories, and connect to the things that have personal meaning to them.
Tonight, these students will be sharing the topics they are most passionate about. Topics like hope, kindness, humility, patience and love will be shared throughout the performance in many different ways. I invite you, as an audience member, to likewise seek out what you connect with within this musical. And then decide what to do with what you have felt.
"Let your light so shine before men ... that they might know some kindness again."
