About The House of George

The House of George is a historically relevant play capturing a community unrest of barbershop robberies and gentrification in the late 90's.  Howard Craft creatively captures an internal snapshot of one hypothetical, Black Barbershop which stands as a neighborhood cornerstone.  George, its owner, unapologetically expresses his frustrations about a changing community as he invests in the next generation of Black business owners.  The play is filled with barbershop humor, wittiness, and emotions truthfully reflecting the Black experience.

The accomplishments of Author Howard L. Craft, a NCCU alum, have extended far and reaching as wide as Off Broadway with his play, Freight: The Five Incarnations of Abel Green. Craft is currently the Piller Professor of the practice for the Writing for the Stage and Screen program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Theatre Adjunct Professor at NCCU.

The show is nicely mixed with NCCU theatre alumni as Gil Faison (class of 92) and Chase Rivers (class of '19) share the stage with current theatre majors. Other cast members include Elijah Spencer, Foye Thornton, Jaylan Ivery, and Trenton Brown.
