About Seussical the Musical TYA
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. (MTI synopsis)
IlluminArt Production
IlluminArt Productions is a nonprofit organization that has been serving the 5 boroughs of New York City, primarily Staten Island, since 2010. We strive to create equity by focusing on marginalized communities. IlluminArt Production was specifically developed to utilize theatre as a tool to illuminate critical social issues, creating conversations for positive social change. In that vein, we have generated original vehicles to address the prevention of bullying, violence, substance use, relationship abuse, and facilitate discussions about cultural heritage, aging, grief, and loss. These artistic vehicles address social attitudes about peer pressure, gender identity, sexual orientation, family violence, underage drinking, emotion/verbal abuse, and coping with death. We provide our audiences with insight into the need for open communication, empathy, empowerment, the value of friendships, diversity, and respect.
