Really Rosie Cast

JOCELYN AARON (Johnny’s Mother / Buttermilk Puppeteer)
JOHNNY’S MOTHER - warm and slightly frazzled, often peering out of the window with a concerned eye on her son. While she’s kind and loving, she also has her own unique, slightly exaggerated way of expressing frustration. With Johnny’s head often buried in a book and his peculiar, morbid interests, she’s the type of mother who tries to steer him away from the darker corners of his imagination — but with a big dose of humor. Her over-the-top threats, typically shouted from the brownstone window, show her genuine concern for Johnny’s well-being, but also a playful willingness to let her son’s quirks slide, even if she doesn’t always understand them. She’s the type of mother who balances nurturing with playful authority, always ready to protect her son while adding a little comic relief to the chaos of neighborhood life.
THERESA CINALLI (Rosie)
ROSIE (10 yrs old) The imaginative and spirited young girl who dreams bigger than her small Brooklyn block. With her sassy attitude and boundless creativity, Rosie sees the world not as it is, but as it could be. While the neighborhood may be ordinary, Rosie transforms it into the glamorous and exciting backdrop of her wild, make-believe movie — Did You Hear What Happened to Chicken Soup? Ever the star, Rosie imagines herself the toast of the town, even if she’s still just the queen of Avenue P. As the director, producer, and lead actress in her own cinematic masterpiece, she pulls her friends and neighbors into her fantastical world, making them play parts in her story. With invisible reporters, grand speeches, and a larger-than-life personality, Rosie’s imagination knows no bounds. She's the sassiest, most ambitious kid on Avenue P, determined to make her movie — and her dreams — a reality, no matter what.
BECKY CONRAD (Rosie & Chicken Soup’s Mother / Jennie Puppeteer)
ROSIE & CHICKEN SOUP’S MOTHER - a slightly exaggerated, no-nonsense figure who runs her household with a combination of stern authority and humorous over-the-top threats. From the window of their brownstone, she hurls commands and warnings at Rosie with the dramatic flair of a Broadway diva. Often exasperated by Rosie’s big dreams and constant antics, she is quick to put her foot down when it comes to taking care of her little brother, but always with a touch of humor that makes her threats more endearing than frightening. Though she may scold Rosie for her mindless aire, it’s clear that her love for her children is unwavering, even if she can’t quite keep up with Rosie’s larger-than-life imagination, or a son that is constantly on the run. This Mother is the kind of parent who mixes tough love with a healthy dose of sarcasm, and she’s always ready to remind her children of the realities of life in their simple, humble Brooklyn neighborhood.
JULIANNA GARDNER (Johnny)
JOHNNY (7 yrs old) A shy, bookish kid with a penchant for the peculiar, Johnny is the neighborhood's quiet observer. While his friends are dreaming up big adventures, Johnny prefers to lose himself in the world of books, particularly those filled with dark or morbid facts that most kids would rather avoid. He has a delightfully twisted sense of humor, finding amusement in the odd and the eerie, which makes him an unlikely, yet fascinating, companion. Johnny is much more comfortable in the pages of a book than in the spotlight, often retreating into his own world rather than seeking attention. Despite his reserved nature, his quirky imagination is something special — a perfect blend of morbid curiosity and playful weirdness. He may not seek the fame that Rosie does, but his unique perspective and twisted sense of humor offer a refreshing contrast to the more conventional aspirations of his friends.
BECKY GOMEZRUEDA (Pierre)
PIERRE (7 yrs old) - The tough, cynical neighbor who seems to think the world owes him something — and he’s not afraid to show it. With his major attitude and loud, rebellious nature, Pierre is the neighborhood’s resident bad boy. He doesn’t bother with niceties or pretending to care about anything, and his signature line — “I don’t care!” — perfectly sums up his whole approach to life. Pierre sees the world as a series of disappointments and refuses to sugarcoat anything, often acting out with a loud, combative energy. He may be young, but his tough exterior and confrontational style make him stand out. Violence and sarcasm are his go-to defenses, and he’s perfectly content with being the grumpy, disaffected kid in the neighborhood, even if that means he’s constantly at odds with the more optimistic characters around him.
DEBBIE HAMON (Kathy & Alligator's Mom)
KATHY & ALLIGATOR’S MOM - a lively, slightly exaggerated neighbor who is often seen and heard shouting from her window in a tone that mixes both frustration and affection. She is always juggling her two very different children — Kathy, the shy, bookish dreamer, and Alligator, the lovable but kooky child who believes they’re an actual alligator. Despite her children’s eccentricities, she has an endless supply of patience (or so it seems) and a sharp sense of humor, especially when it comes to dealing with Alligator’s bizarre antics or Kathy’s more quiet, reserved personality. Like the other neighborhood mothers, she hurls comically dramatic threats or reminders, always with the underlying knowledge that her love for her children is endless — no matter how wild their behavior may get. With her own brand of humorous authority, she adds a layer of comic relief to the neighborhood, always ready with a playful warning or two.
RYAN HINDERLITER (Alligator)
ALLIGATOR (5 yrs old) - Kathy's adorable and quirky younger sibling, Alligator is a sweet, endearing kid who truly believes they are, in fact, an alligator. With an imaginative spirit that knows no bounds, Alligator is full of energy and charm, always eager to please those around them — especially Kathy. While their belief that they’re an alligator might seem strange to others, to Alligator, it's completely real. They happily adopt alligator-like behaviors, from waddling around with a playful snarl to insisting on being called "Alligator." Despite their youthful innocence and slightly confused identity, Alligator’s cuteness and desire to fit in make them impossible not to love. Always looking for approval, Alligator brings a whimsical, innocent charm to the group, offering moments of lighthearted humor amidst the more dramatic characters.
MARCI LUMER (Chicken Soup )
CHICKEN SOUP (8 yrs old) Rosie's lovable, dramatic younger sibling, Chicken Soup is the kind of kid who loves to be the center of attention, even if it means causing a little chaos. They are constantly in Rosie’s way — a fact that Rosie begrudgingly accepts as part of her babysitting duties. Chicken Soup has an appetite not just for food (they love to eat) but for performing, often putting on dramatic little shows and stealing the spotlight wherever they can. While Rosie might roll her eyes at their antics, there’s no denying that Chicken Soup has a natural flair for the stage, showing a surprising talent for drama despite their age. While they often frustrate Rosie with their relentless energy and neediness, Chicken Soup’s devotion to their big sibling is unshakeable, and they’re always looking to Rosie for approval and guidance — even if it means running away to make their own adventure. Chicken Soup brings an endearing mix of innocence and unintentional drama to the story, making them both a source of comedy and heartfelt moments.
KRISTEN SCHADA/WALSH (Kathy)
KATHY (8 yrs old) Rosie’s loyal sidekick and consistently underappreciated secretary, Kathy is a sweet, shy, and somewhat reserved neighbor with big dreams of her own. While Rosie is all sass and confidence, Kathy is more introverted and prefers to stay in the background — but she’s still incredibly eager for her moment to shine. Deep down, Kathy longs for the spotlight, yearning to break free from Rosie’s larger-than-life shadow and show the world what she’s made of. Her big number, “Kathy Grossman Meets Dracula”, reveals her inner world of imagination and ambition, where she transforms from a quiet follower into a bold, dramatic star in her own right. Kathy may not have Rosie’s outgoing personality, but she’s just as determined to make her mark — even if it means facing her fears and stepping into the spotlight in her own unique way.
LUCINDA (Buttermilk)
BUTTERMILK - Rosie’s sly, independent cat who, despite being a pet, seems to have as much personality as any of the human characters. With a cool, aloof demeanor, Buttermilk often carries an air of mystery and disdain for the chaos around him, but he also has an occasional soft spot for Rosie — when it suits him, of course. Buttermilk’s role in the group is more observational than active; he wanders through the scene with the grace and confidence of a cat who knows he's the true star of the show, even if he's not in the limelight. His expressions and movements carry a tone of bemusement at the antics of the humans and other animals, with just enough charm to remind us that underneath the cool exterior, Buttermilk is indeed part of the family — and is never far from his Rosie.
JENNIE (Jennie)
JENNIE - Johnny’s loyal, slightly goofy dog, full of heart and always by Johnny’s side, whether he’s lost in a book or daydreaming about dark facts. Unlike the more independent Buttermilk, Jennie is playful and eager to please, though she often doesn't fully understand Johnny’s morbid interests. She loves attention and is a bit of a comic relief, bringing an infectious, goofy energy to the story. As a puppet, Jennie will be portrayed with exaggerated enthusiasm — barking, wagging, and perhaps getting distracted by the smallest things, offering a lighthearted counterbalance to Johnny's more serious, bookish nature. Her love for her owner is unconditional, and despite being a little silly, Jennie is always there to bring a smile to the audience’s face.
