The Importance of Being Earnest Creative

Director
Stephen Cox
is delighted to be directing at GAC again, after ending a 10+ year hiatus from theater this year. He has a long history with GAC, acting in dozens of shows since 1992 (including the first shows in this current space), directing a dozen, doing tech for more, and serving on the Board for a few years in the last century. He also met his late wife by playing her (obnoxious) husband on this stage in Woman in Mind in 1995. He last directed Les Liasons Dangereuses for GAC in 2010, and most recently appeared as Sir Oliver in the Rude Mechanicals' production of School for Scandall here.
Assistant Director
Wes Dennis
While Wes Dennis does enjoy acting -- his less distant roles include Snake (The School for Scandal, Rude Mechanicals @ GAC), Malvolio (Twelfth Night, Laurel Mill Playhouse), Puck (Ill Met By Moonlight, RM @ GAC), Doricourt (Belle's Stratagem, RM @ GAC), and Mercutio (Romeo & Juliet, Bard's Wagon Players) -- he's also assistant directed the Scottish play (RM @ GAC) and now The Importance of Being Earnest. He thanks you for your support and hopes you'll keep your eyes peeled for his highly anticipated directorial debut.
Stage Manager
Valerie Mikles
loves dancing, writing, astronomy, and grapes. By day (like for money) she works on weather satellites for NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). When not at the theater, she fills her time writing novels, playing songs on her ukulele, producing short films, and vacuuming cat hair. Her motto in life is “I can be everything I want, just not all at the same time.”
Assistant Stage Manager
Liana Olear
is pleased to return to a GAC show after a 20-year hiatus which largely consisted of stage managing, directing and acting in countless GAC guest productions - most recently The Rude Mechanicals' Macbeth (director) and The School for Scandal (Mrs. Candour). Presently she's stage managing and dramaturging The Rudes' The Seagull - opens at GAC on January 24th.
Costumes
Linda Swann
inda is happy to be back working on this lovely show in one of her favorite spaces. No stranger to the amateur theater circuit, her work has been seen recently in Rockville Musical Theater’s Sweeney Todd and St. Mark’s Players The Birthday Party. When not playing live Barbie dolls she can be found teaching 7th grade English Lit. She’d like to thank the cast and crew for their faith in her, God for granting her this talent, and earnestly hopes you’ll enjoy the show.
Wigs / Makeup
Maureen Roult
was last seen on the GAC stage as Eurydice in The Burial at Thebes. Now she gets a chance to work backstage here, designing one of her favorite plays. She has also designed for the Victorian Lyric Opera Company, Maryland Opera, and more. She particularly enjoys designing period pieces. Just last year, she created period-appropriate designs for Blue Stockings (SSS; 1890s), The New Moon (VLOC; 1790s), and three different adaptations of Pride & Prejudice (RLT, SSS, LMP; 1810s). She earned WATCH nominations for two of those shows (New Moon, Silver Spring Stage’s Pride & Prejudice). Her next design project is Silver Spring Stage’s DOT, running December 6-15.
Producer
Alan Duda
Alan's work is visible in all our productions as he has sorted every drywall screw in the tool room. Having served three months as the president of the Rude Mechanicals, he is now the Secretary of GAC.
Light Design, Introducing
Stephen Duda
As light designer for the first time, Stephen thanks Steve for the opportunity and Liana and Jeff for the ability.
Sound Design
Penny Martin
Attempting to be of sound mind for this excellent production of one of my favorite plays (Hah! -- a sound mind is an empty one? full of sound & fury & too many notes?) Anyway, many thanks to the Rude Mechanicals and Stephen Cox for the opportunity to play with EARNEST. Extra thanks to Liana & Valerie for their techno-spertice. (tech-spertice)

Jaki Demarest
Usually seen doing show art for the Rude Mechanicals, Jaki is thrilled to be expanding to GAC productions, and will do all the show art for everyone everywhere if allowed. Jaki has also enjoyed bonding with Stephen Cox over directing this play; she directed the Rude Mechanicals’ 1935 Hollywood-set version a few years ago, and continues to believe that Earnest is the best comedy in the English language. Congratulations to the crew and cast on a fine production!
