The Fourth Wall Theatre Company
DDSO-Employment Plus is a program under the non-profit umbrella of DDSO, Inc. Employment Plus (E+) provides a wide variety of educational and vocational opportunities for adults with developmental delays. These opportunities include academics, social and communication development, life skills, employment training, and extensive digital media instruction such as graphic arts design, screenwriting, audio production, and post-production.
In 2018, staff members from E+ envisioned creating a theatre troupe that would utilize the performance space at DDSO’s 47th Avenue Parkway site — formerly a Calvary Church. Their mission was to incorporate program participants into the writing and performance of original sketch comedy productions, while creating an inclusive and creative environment where every voice could be heard.
And so began… The Fourth Wall Theatre Company.
The Fourth Wall Theatre Company produced its first stage production — an original sketch comedy showcase — in May 2018. Throughout the remainder of that inaugural year, the company presented three additional original sketch comedy productions developed through collaborative workshops with program participants.
In 2019, The Fourth Wall officially established its first theatrical season, expanding beyond sketch comedy to include published works, musicals, and original productions by local playwrights.
Productions have included:
- BARE: The Pop Opera
- You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown
- 26 Pebbles
- Trail to Oregon
- Harold & Maude
The year 2025 marked a renaissance for The Fourth Wall Theatre Company. In October, the company produced Birdmocking, an original work by talented local playwright and director Anthony D’Juan. In November, the company presented Daddy Long Legs by Paul Gordon.
Today, The Fourth Wall Theatre Company continues its mission of inclusion, creativity, and community-driven theatre by providing opportunities for performers and creators of all backgrounds and abilities to share their talents on stage.
All net proceeds from ticket sales directly support DDSO-Employment Plus and help provide essential equipment, supplies, and program resources that keep the organization thriving.
