About R. W. Emerson High

We have lived through an unprecedented year that challenged us as people and as artists, forcing us the face realities and hardships that perhaps in other years would be eclipsed by human connection, performing on stage, living life as we knew it. We were forced to dig deeper and, coming together at a virtual playwriting table, we have started to create a new world, the world of R. W. Emerson High, a diverse high school, not unlike other high schools in America. There's Tara, Nathan, Charlie, Micah, Travis, Kyra, Paloma, Kai, Esther, Omid, Monica, Hussein, and many others.... They are all young, beautiful teenagers who are trying to find their way, some looking for happiness, some looking for love and others just looking for safety, shelter, and just being able to be themselves. Though fictional, they are based on real people and their real stories, all written by the cast of this show,  Juniors and Seniors Theatre Arts Majors at County Prep HS.

The purpose of this show is to address issues in our society that affect teenagers today. We are trying to make people aware of these issues in hopes of creating a better society with a better understanding of cultural differences, bias and discrimination of all kinds. We would like to sensitize our audience to the comments that could be hurtful to our youth. Although we know that these incidents sadly can happen in our world, we, as artists, are interested in making a difference and inching closer to a compassionate and discrimination-free world.

While some of the issues dear to the students' heart might be quite common in a world of a typical high school, there are a couple that people may find upsetting such as recalling a sexual assault and police brutality.  Rating PG-13

We hope you enjoy the show!
