Student Director
Harper Currence
Last seen as the Queen of Hearts in " Alice in Wonderland", Harper has been acting and singing in productions half her life, starting with a small production at The Dance Factory and continuing with the BCT for the past three years. This is Harpers first time as Student Director and the first time in a long time she hasnt been on stage during a show. But she is so excited that the wonderful director Dannie has given her this opportunity. She loves to be around her theater family and feels at home on stage. No matter the part, she puts her all into it and is always sad when the experience is over. Set Design
Matt Stott
Matt is making his third appearance in a BCT production after debuting as Scarecrow in 2023's Wizard of Oz. Matt played Romeo twenty years ago and more recently in 2015 he played Uncle Max in The Sound of Music in a town in Western Colorado with less than 450 residents. Because of such a limited cast, he also got to play the priest that married his wife (playing Maria) to another man (playing VonTrapp)! Matt also enjoys helping the productions with set design and building. When not on stage, Matt practices as an attorney in Buckhannon, helps to homeschool his five kids, and plays the mandolin poorly.

Original Creative Team

🎭 The Original Creative Team of Mamma Mia!

Before it became a worldwide sensation, jukebox megahit, and global stage phenomenon, Mamma Mia! began with an inspired idea and a visionary creative team. Here’s a look at the original forces behind the show that brought ABBA’s music to dazzling life onstage.

📖 Book by Catherine Johnson

British playwright Catherine Johnson crafted the heartfelt and hilarious story that forms the backbone of Mamma Mia! With sharp dialogue and emotional depth, her book weaves ABBA’s songs into a narrative about love, identity, and second chances. Johnson’s work captures both the nostalgia of the music and the fresh, modern perspective of a story centered around strong women and chosen family.

🎶 Music and Lyrics by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus

As founding members of the legendary pop group ABBA, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus brought decades of songwriting brilliance to the stage. Their iconic catalog — including hits like “Dancing Queen,” “Super Trouper,” and “The Winner Takes It All” — provides the soundtrack to this joyous celebration of love, laughter, and empowerment. Every beat, harmony, and key change is classic ABBA, seamlessly adapted for the theatrical stage.

🎨 Originally Directed by Phyllida Lloyd

Visionary director Phyllida Lloyd helmed the original West End and Broadway productions of Mamma Mia!, blending musical comedy with emotional authenticity. Her direction brought out the show’s heart, humor, and infectious energy, making Mamma Mia! one of the most successful stage musicals of all time. Lloyd later directed the film adaptation, further solidifying the musical’s cultural legacy.

💃 Original Choreography by Anthony Van Laast

With dynamic movement and disco-fueled flair, Anthony Van Laast’s choreography gave Mamma Mia! its pulse. His routines — from joyous ensemble numbers to intimate duets — celebrate the fun and freedom of ABBA’s music while grounding the show in character and storytelling. Van Laast’s work helps keep the audience tapping their toes long after the final curtain.

Mamma Mia! premiered in London’s West End in 1999 and made its Broadway debut in 2001. It has since played to millions of fans around the world and continues to bring joy wherever it’s staged.
