About Matilda Jr.

Presented by WSPA Musical Theatre Company, Westlake School for the Performing Arts and Artists In Motion Bay Area

MATILDA JR. Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda JR. is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

MATILDA JR. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).  All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. (www.mtishows.com)

WSPA & AIMBA

Westlake School for the Performing Arts is proud to offer to the children of our community an opportunity to participate in the training, the competition events, and the performance programs of WSPA. This is not just another dance school, it is an institution where talents are discovered, skills are honed, artists are bred, and where people come together with a common goal - to be our best, to share our best, and to give our best.

Westlake School for the Performing Arts Musical Theatre Company (WSPAMTC) under the direction of Ms. Katie Kerwin-Gielniak, is a performance program that teaches students ages 5-18 musical theatre in a diverse, supportive, fun, and community based environment. Students learn this art form by utilizing acting, singing and dancing techniques as well as develop leadership skills and confidence through the performing arts. Members have the opportunity to train and hone their craft as well as implement what they have learned in class with performances and competitions throughout the year in various professional and community service venues. WSPAMTC builds confidence, promotes inclusivity, diversity, expands repertoire, inspires and instills an appreciation for the art form in its members and their families, as well as a strong sense of community. Graduates from the program gain independence, confidence, leadership skills, responsibility, reliability, integrity, and lifelong friendships.  Additionally they achieve great success in their academics, are accepted to prestigious universities and colleges, and have become professional artists, teachers, directors and choreographers.

Artists in Motion Bay Area (AIMBA) is a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to promote the growth of performing arts by raising funds to provide scholarships and to support the education of our young artists. Through community support, we are able to achieve this by hosting performances for each WSPA performance program.
