The Post Theatre Company serves as the producing entity for the Department of Theatre, Dance, and Arts Management at LIU Post. PTC is committed to developing dynamic, independent artists who are interested in exploring the human condition and using their art to tell meaningful stories that help us to understand the world around us.
PTC believes in repeatable, reliable, consent-based, and trauma-informed training practices where, over the course of four years, students develop their own ways of analyzing, rehearsing, and embodying texts from a variety of genres. We help students grow into the best versions of themselves – not an idea that we hold, not according to assumptions about the industry, but instead, we support students in finding their own artistic voices and celebrate the unique things that make each student who they truly are.
At PTC, we believe in expanding what you think is possible, and we provide ample opportunities for students to step outside of their first area of expertise to explore a range of other facets of life as a theatre artist and theatre maker. PTC works collaboratively in producing a full performance season, and we uphold the values that enable us all to thrive in the process.
Acting students receive a broad range of training that includes traditional and non-traditional theatre practices. LIU Post is one of the only undergraduate programs in the country to offer Suzuki training – a rigorous physical discipline designed to increase an actor's focus and concentration as part of its core curriculum. Graduates of the program are strong theatre artists who can meet the challenges of the rapidly changing and multi-faceted field.
