Who We Are

Playmakers is a regional community theater primarily serving Union County. Our volunteer board and staff and participants are composed of business leaders, experienced non-profit organization representatives, educators in both the theater arts and other fields, and experienced and first-time theater participants, from actors, musicians, dancers and directors to stage managers, costumers, artists, writers and set builders.

The mission of Union County Playmakers is to provide opportunities for participation that enrich, inspire, engage, and educate our community through theater arts.

Goals

To work in a vibrant partnership with schools and colleges and universities, civic, business, social, and other arts-based organizations to enrich the lives of the people in our community by expanding their exposure to and understanding of the theater
To encourage active participation in theater beyond just a social experience
To support the vitality and growth of Union County by adding theater to an already rich array of cultural offerings.

History

The Union County Playmakers formed its board of directors and elected officers on Nov. 13, 2013, under the umbrella of the Union County Community Arts Council. We had a varied first season and have increased offerings every year. Our board and staff are primarily committed volunteers, who give of both time and talent. We have found our theater home at BHES Performing Arts Center. We have as a goal to expand our outreach into the community through partnerships with schools, churches, Monroe Parks and Recreation and other organizations. There has been theater in Union County off and on for decades, but we now think we have the stability we need to remain an enduring organization deeply integrated into the community.
