Theater for Young Professionals (TYP) is a high-caliber acting school and production company in La Mesa for youth. Award winning professional actors, Jordan and Jessica, professionally and enthusiastically train young Artists in the crafts of Acting, Performance Techniques, Stage Combat, and also Singing technique in the styles of Classical, Contemporary, Rock, and Broadway music. Of honorable merit to Jordan and Jessica is their consistent and devoted support and respect for each student enrolled in the TYP classes and their shared, powerful commitment to artistically guide and instruct students with achievable high-standards.

I last ushered for TYP on August 19, where I was completely enchanted with their musical comedy “Disenchanted” in which Grimm’s disenchanted princesses looked at the “other side” of being a Disney princess. They humorously collaborated together to correct the unfavorable way they were previously portrayed in Pop Culture. “Disenchanted” called out the unrealistic expectations that coincide with a fairytale; the clever new message is that each of us should accept that our imperfections are what make us perfect! So to speak, society can function as though under a spell and accept disenchantment; it is vital that we break that spell and become mindfully enchanted with our true promising Self!

Recently, Jordan shared some of his insights about being the Artistic Director alongside his wife, Jessica. When asked what were the benefits of parents enrolling their child/children in TYP, Jordan stated:

“Theatre either gives pivotal hope for where an individual is in life and/or it offers a welcome distraction for where an individual is in life. Acting allows an actor the opportunity to escape from challenging feelings and/or acting also welcomes deep feelings not normally felt. Acting lays the groundwork for the actor to become a responsible person and to more maturely handle Life’s wide range of emotions."

I have had the genuine pleasure of ushering many of TYP’s shows and am always impressed with the confidence, expertise, connection, and enjoyment of all of the theatre students! Each show is outstanding and uplifting! My two daughters were in community and high school theatre from Fourth Grade onwards through Junior College, and the positive contribution that acting has made in each of their respective youth and adult life is immeasurable! Today’s youth need good role-models, purpose and identity outside of school, connection with like-minded peers, and an opportunity to continue the development of strong emotional character with solid personal values. The lifelong benefit to the individual student enrolled in TYP is “Enchanting!” Don’t miss their current original Christmas themed musical, “Return To North Star,” which I look forward to ushering as well!
