2021-2022 Theatre Course Offerings

 

 

Foundations of Theatre:

Grades 9-12

.5 credits  (CP)

Prerequisite:  none

  • Learn the difference between theater and theatre
  • Gain confidence in public speaking
  • General overview of theatre: theatre history, play types, genres, playwrights, and technical theatre
  • Improvisational skills to develop as an actor
  • Creative thinking


 

Technical Theatre 

Grades 10-12

.5 credits (CP)  

Prerequisite: Foundations of Theatre

  • Hands-on classes in: lighting, sound, props, costumes, make-up, set construction, and production
  • Safe use of equipment will be taught and expected
  • Level appropriate responsibilities will be assigned




 

Acting I

Grades 10-12

.5 credits  (CP)

Prerequisite:  Foundations of Theatre

  • Basic acting techniques: pantomime/gestures, beginning voice, and improvisation
  • Learn how to blend in the crowd vs. standing out
  • Students will analyze scripts and performances while furthering stage knowledge
  • Learn audition techniques
  • Encourage participation in Prout dance, yoga, improv and other performance based activities


 

Musical Theatre
Grades 10-12

.5 credits  (CP)

Prerequisite:  Foundations of Theatre

  • Great for performing vocalists
  • Performance based
  • Encourage participation in Prout dance, choir and other vocal performance based activities
  • History of musical theatre will be studied and presented


 

IB Theatre 

Grades 11-12

1 credit  (SL/HL)

Prerequisite:  Foundations of Theatre and 2 other Theatre courses


 

This IB Diploma theatre course is a multi-faceted theatre-making course of study.  It gives students the opportunity to make theatre as creators, designers, directors, and performers.  It emphasizes the importance of working both individually and collaboratively as part of an ensemble.  It offers the opportunity to engage actively in the creative process, transforming ideas into action as inquisitive and productive artists.  HL students work with play texts, examine world theatre traditions, and collaboratively create original theatre as well as create theatre based on theory.  In year two, students are expected to complete three IB assessment tasks: The Director’s Notebook, Research Presentation, and the Collaborative Project.

Prout Improv Club meets every Thursday @ 2:30pm in the John Neidl Auditorium.

All Prout Students are welcome! No training or previous classes necessary! Come have fun!
