PeRFORMING ARTS @ BANFF

The Banff Performing Arts program is based around a Musical Theatre training curriculum. Students are trained as "triple-threat" performers in singing, dancing and acting. This thriving program provides students with top-notch theatrical training and our community with exciting musical and dramatic theatre experiences.

Our Theatre Arts class introduces students to the production aspects of a theatre performance through basic set, lighting, sound, costume, and make-up design. Students practice the creation of characters, projection of ideas and emotions in preparing and acting in scenes from plays, as they develop language skills and appreciation through reading and interpreting dramatic literature, writing critiques, analyzing characters, listening critically, and speaking effectively.

PRESCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN
Our youngest performers learn theatre techniques through fun "music and movement" activities. Using special games designed to help students be creative and hone their performing skills, our weekly Musical Theatre classes prepare the students for two shows (fall/spring), complete with costumes, scenery, props and more!

1ST-5TH GRADE
Our Musical Theatre classes in 1st-5th grade cover specific dancing, music, and acting techniques in a twice-weekly class, helping the students understand the different concepts involved in live performance. Each fall and spring, our Lower School students take to the stage for a full-scale musical production celebrating our students' talents.

6TH-12TH GRADE
Our Upper School Performing Arts classes provide students with the chance to showcase their talents, both onstage and off.

For those 6th-12th grade students wishing to participate in full-scale theatrical productions on our proscenium stage, we offer our Theatre Production class. This hands-on, "lab" class gives students the opportunity to learn practical skills in theatre performance as they rehearse and produce the two main stage shows presented each semester. Through in-class rehearsals for music, dance and acting, students mount a play in the fall and musical in the spring.

For our students interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of Performing Arts, we offer multi-level classes in both Technical Theatre as well as Directing. Our theatre productions are fully student run, both onstage and off!
