ABOUT US: 

The SoWright Theater Company (SWTC) was established in 2023 and serves as the nonprofit to SoWright Productions, LLC, to provide a space to engage and develop the skills and talents of inner-city youth and adults through theatrical arts, activities, workshops, and much more. SWTC ultimately strives to present quality productions that offer cultural education, entertainment, and inspiration.

HISTORY:

The journey of SoWright Theater Company started in early 2009 when Sabrina Wright, a passionate and independent theater professional, gathered a group of like-minded individuals to create a platform for showcasing talents. Under the initial name of SoWright Productions, LLC.They embarked on organizing numerous successful events and productions.

These early endeavors included diverse theater projects, ranging from plays to workshops and educational programs.SoWright Productions, LLC. gained a strong reputation for delivering high-quality productions that captivated audiences and received critical acclaim. The company's commitment to artistic excellence and community engagement grew with each endeavor.

In 2023, SoWright Productions, LLC. underwent a significant restructuring process. Recognizing the potential to expand their impact and further serve the community, they established a new nonprofit organization – SoWright Theater Company. This transformation allowed them to focus solely on the art of live theater and create a sustainable platform for future growth.

MISSION:

SoWright Theater Company is designed to provide performing arts education to inner-city youth and adults; promote social awareness through creative arts accessible programs, workshops, and performances that inspire, educate, and entertain. 

VISION:

SoWright Theater Company aims to revolutionize the arts community by empowering local artists, breaking down barriers faced by inner-city youth, and elevating the general level of culture through thought-provoking art in diverse forms.

STRATEGIC GOALS 

The goals of the SWTC organization are focused on art education, collaboration, community enrichment, organizational capacity building (operations & infrastructure), and communications and outreach.  SWTC seeks to:

  1. Create an all-inclusive curriculum and training program that enables local artists and inner-city youth to have access to the essential skills and tools necessary for success.
  2. Partner with local schools, community centers, and arts organizations to expand organizational efforts.
  3. Enrich the community by nurturing and supporting the endeavors of local artists to cultivate an inclusive and vibrant cultural scene and address systemic issues that hinder the participation of inner-city youth in the arts.
  4. Build capacity for the SWTC Organization to support future growth and to ensure overall success (i.e. fundraising, facilities improvement, etc.) 
  5. Develop robust outreach and marketing initiatives to assist SWTC with connecting with those it serves and to connect with partners.
