THE TED SHINE PLAY FESTIVAL

June 2023

Featuring several regional and world premieres

Soul Rep is ecstatic to present its biennial new play festival rebranded in memory of the legacy of trailblazing playwright of the Black Theater Movement and arts educator, Dr. Ted Shine, who was recently honored with a plaque as an esteemed alumnus of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts for the school’s centennial.

This year’s festival will feature performances of several dynamic short comedic, satirical, and farce-inspired plays written by area and national playwrights. The festival will also featured a staged reading of co-founder, Anyika McMillan-Herod’s, newest play that is also a comedy.

Prepare yourselves to experience the goofy, some “good trouble” humor, and everything in between!

The festival will run for two weekends in June.
