About Emma True: Teen Detective - The Mystery of the Missing Hawthorn Jewels

Emma True - Teen Detective is a devised play and created by the West Sound Academy Pandemic Theatre Company.

When we last met Emma True and her band of gumshoes Tia Cartwright had lost the lead in the All School Musical and Principal Hillman was missing.  On top of that - there were strange noises and smells haunting the halls of Bayside High.  Emma and her gang solved the mystery and the gang celebrated at the Sadie Hawkins dance.

In Emma True - Teen Detective Episode #2 - It's summertime in South Cove, and all the kids have summer jobs, and Emma's mom - Verity True is home for the summer and Darcy Adam's is working in the library at Hawthorn House.  Tune in to find out what our Teen Detective - Emma True and her band of gumshoes is up to now!

Mission Statement

At West Sound Academy we believe that theatre’s purpose is to hold a mirror up to society. It is through this mirror that performers, technicians, and audience members can acquire knowledge of the human's visual, literary, and creative heritage. The purpose of this knowledge is to build an understanding of our culture and cultures globally in relation to other times and places, and a greater understanding of self.

We are dedicated to creating a collaborative learning environment with a high-quality education in the performing arts. Our aim is to elicit creative self-expression, critical thinking, and artistry through our theatre course offerings and mainstage productions as students grow as performers, directors, designers, and stage technicians.

To further these beliefs, during a student’s high school career at West Sound Academy he/she should be exposed to or experience theatre that:

  • Has historical importance and impact, due to either its subject or its ability to last over time (Examples: Shakespeare and classic theatre)
  • Has different styles: Comedy, tragedy, slapstick, realism, absurdism, etc.
  • Has variety: The plays should have a broad range to help draw from different strengths of those auditioning, as well as to challenge their abilities and talents. Students will also gain their own library of knowledge of plays.
  • Challenges and excites: Students need to be pushed to a new level of excellence and be passionate about those challenges.

We also have a clear vision of the purpose of each of the shows of our season.

  • Fall Mainstage show: This play is more often than not a large ensemble play, with a bigger set and theatrical expectations. Training for young actors and technicians is embraced in this production. This production introduces the younger and new members of our student body to theatre at West Sound Academy.
  • Winter Mainstage show: This is the challenging piece of the season. This allows for a small to medium size cast, and a higher level of intense training for actors and technicians.
  • IB Theatre Performances: Fall performance: The Collaborative Theatre Project and Winter Performance: The Solo Project.
  • Spring Mainstage show: It Will be a new endeavor this coming year!  So check back to see what is in store for our students!

West Sound Academy’s Theatre Program prides itself on creating a supportive and exciting environment in which students can grow as performance artists and as human beings. We strive to foster group cohesion, while at the same time encouraging individual growth. We believe theatre can be used as a springboard to educate our student body on social concerns, as well as instill a more positive perspective about the world in which they live. We believe in the good that exists within all students, and we strive to make them conscious of this quality through all they achieve within our program.
