About Hello, Dolly!

Set at the beginning of the 20th century, "Hello, Dolly!" is centered on a middle-aged matchmaking widow named Dolly Levi and an ensemble of characters who are desperately searching for love in New York City.  The 2-act musical follows Dolly herself, the well-known half-a-millionaire Horace Vandergelder, his niece Ermengarde, her painter paramour Ambrose Kemper, Vandergelder's Hay & Feed store clerks Cornelius Hackl and Barnaby Tucker, and milliners Irene Molloy and Minnie Fay, in their quest to find romance.

Along with the famous title song, Jerry Herman's tuneful musical score includes "Before The Parade Passes By," "It Takes A Woman," "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," "Ribbons Down My Back," "Elegance," and "It Only Takes A Moment."  Based on Thornton Wilder's 1954 play "The Matchmaker," "Hello, Dolly!" premiered on Broadway in 1964 and won 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical.  The musical has enjoyed 3 Broadway revivals, most recently in 2017, starring Bette Midler.
