Ventura High School Music Department

Ventura High School is home to some 200+ musicians who participate in over 50 community performances annually. The program includes three levels of Wind Band (Wind Ensemble II Honors, Wind Ensemble I and Concert Band), two levels of String Orchestra (String Ensemble II Honors and String Ensemble I) and the Studio Jazz Ensemble. In addition to classes, the music department students participate in various music clubs and activities including combo jazz, pep band, drum line, Tri-M, the spring musical and is the home of the Ventura Youth Symphony. Working with NAfME (National Association for Music Education), the music department promotes leadership through Tri-M, the national music honor society. The students regularly participate in the Ventura All County and CBDA (California Band Directors Association) All State Honor Groups. We work to make music both an art and a science and prepare students for the opportunity to perform and continue their musical studies at the post-secondary and professional level. Ventura High School works closely with the community and maintains strong ties with the music departments of Anacapa, Balboa, Cabrillo, and DeAnza Middle Schools and Buena High School.

Many of the musicians who have graduated have since continued on to become music majors and professional musicians and teachers at prestigious music conservatories including the Berklee School of Music, Boston Conservatory, Cal Arts, Northwestern, San Francisco Conservatory, Syracuse University, USC, and countless other UC / CSU and private schools across 23 states.
