About 9 to 5 The Musical

Valley Musical Theatre is proud to present this year's summer musical theatre hit, "9 to 5 the Musical" with 10 shows performing from July 7-22nd at the Morgan Performing Arts Center (400 E. First Ave).

This musical adaptation of the iconic film, 9 to 5 is an undeniably upbeat show about friendship, standing up for what's right, and making a change. Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss.

In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?

Music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, book by Patricia Resnick and directed by Kelle Vandenberg, this hilarious spin on women's equality will leave you hanging from the edge of your seat.

Vandenberg last directed VMT's Cabernet Cabaret, "The Books of Broadway" and had this to say about directing "9 to 5", "when we first talked about selecting this show as part of the season, I began to slowly sing the opening number, 9 to 5. I hadn't heard the song in decades, but I knew every word. It was a part of my culture and as a teen growing up in 1979, I was deeply influenced by everything going on around me. Women's rights, gas lines, potential war with Iran, and aerobics, or as we knew it, slimnastics. I wanted to tell this story using honesty and humor. I am honored to tell our history as women trying to fight for our place in the working world."

At Valley Musical Theatre, we are proud of the amazing talent in our community and are pleased to share it with you.
