About Fall One-Acts

"Wiley and the Hairy Man" is an American folktale and play adaptation where a young boy, Wiley, must outwit a menacing Hairy Man in the Tombigbee Swamp with his mother's help and his own wit to conquer his fears. The story is a "spine-tingling tale" of a boy facing his worst fears, using brains over brawn to overcome the bullying Hairy Man and find safety.

In “A Jury of Her Peers” (adapted from Susan Glaspell's short story), a farmer has been found dead and his wife, Minnie, is the prime suspect. As the men go about the business of investigation, the women make a remarkable discovery: the motive for the crime. Set in 1917, three years before women had the right to vote or serve on juries, the women become Minnie's jury. The story, which features four powerful female roles, is a fascinating work of moral and social conscience, as well as an intriguing murder mystery.

"Any Body for Tea” is a comedic mystery play in which Detective Dennis O'Finn investigates the staged death of an elderly lady, only to discover that the motive for the murder is him. Six eccentric spinsters, all smitten with the handsome bachelor neighbor, orchestrate the "homicide" to lure him to their homes, but their scheme gets more complicated when they have to repeat it.
