Director
D.B. HovisDarryl B. Hovis earned his M.A. in Theatre Production at Central Washington University and studied acting at the Professional Conservatory at UCSD under Anna Shapiro (Steppenwolf) as well as South Coast Repertory under Karen Hensel. He is the co-founder and artistic director of the Culver City Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, where he developed an intensive arts program for high school students in theatre, film, music, and art, and has gone on to develop theatre programs at other Southern California high schools, as well as Theatre International at Leysin American School in Leysin, Switzerland. TYA productions include Alice in Wonderland, The Legend(s) of Sleepy Hollow, and The Boy at the Edge of Everything. Other favorites include Therese Raquin (Chance Theater), Rent and The Threepenny Opera (Samohi Theatre), Machinal and Resurrecting Antigone (UniTheatre), and The Miracle Worker and Treehouses (AVPA).

Kalani Lopez
Kalani Lopez is a singer, actor, and director. She is a current undergraduate student at CSULB and is excited to be directing her third show at Torrance High. She has been awarded Outstanding Musicianship at Fullerton Jazz Festival, performed in Carnegie Hall with Manhattan Masterworks Chorale and in Walt Disney Concert Hall with LA Master Chorale. Favorite roles include Governor Danforth (The Crucible) and Dragon (Shrek). She sends love and gratitude to the cast and crew for all their hard work!
Scenic Design
Brian JohnsonBrian Johnson is a director, scenic designer and educator from Southern California. He is a co-founder of the Electric Theater Company located in Fullerton. He is also the founder of La Habra High School Theater Guild.
Costume Designer
Shannon A. KennedyShannon A, Kennedy is a multi media artist who has been designing, building and teaching costuming, scenic design and puppetry for stage and film in Los Angeles for over 20 years. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in scenic design from UCLA. She also composes experimental music and performs with cello and sound sculptures she designs and builds as Nephila and in the performance art group Pedestrian Deposit, which has numerous audio releases and has toured extensively throughout the US and Europe. She is also a board member of Coaxial Arts Organization, an art space in downtown LA, which promotes experimental art work from emerging artists.
Lighting Design
Jason SluyterJason is the Drama and Vocal Music teacher at Ambassador High School in Torrance. He has worked in educational theatre for 20 years as a producer, director, vocal director, stage manager, conductor, and lighting designer. He has done a combination of all of the above for such shows as Annie, Into the Woods, Les Misérables, Godspell, Shrek, Seussical, High School Musical, Camp Rock, Little Shop of Horrors, 13, Bring It On, She Kills Monsters, Triangle, and The Wiz. He would like to thank Mr. Hovis and the cast and crew for letting him work on Lost Girl!
Choreographer
Essence JasperseEssence Florie Jasperse is a professional teacher, dancer, and choreographer from Thousand Oaks, California. Essence graduated from California Lutheran University (CLU) with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine. With a strong passion for teaching dance, Essence decided to pursue a career in education. She obtained her teaching credential in Physical Education from CLU, followed by a Master's degree in Education, with an emphasis on Teacher Leadership.
Essence has extensive training in multiple styles of dance including ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, musical theater and heels, and has been teaching dance for over 20 years. Additionally, she has trained and choreographed on many promising dancers and upcoming recording artists in the Los Angeles area, including Evan Craft, Djoir Jordan, and Juliet Piper. Essence has performed and choreographed for a number of artists around the world including the Ciclovida Tour with Evan Craft in South America and the Name On It Tour with Djoir Jordan in the Middle East. Essence is passionate about helping dancers meet their goals and fulfill their greatest potential both in dance and in life off the dance floor.
Stage Manager/Student Director
Madison KalenikMaddie is delighted to have the opportunity to try her hand at directing while also stage managing for Lost Girl. This is her fourth high school production with Torrance High Theater. They would like to thank their friends and family for all their support and hopes you enjoy the show! Also, a shout-out to Hovis and Kalani for being amazing directors and mentors!
