About Amahl and the Night Visitors
The first opera ever composed for television, Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors debuted at NBC Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center, New York City, Christmas Eve 1951. It is the story of the Three Kings who on their way to take gifts to the Christ Child, follow their star to the humble home of a crippled boy and his mother. The night that unfolds is full of wonder, dancing, laughter, tragedy, joy, and finally, a miracle.
