About The Addams Family

THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

Director's Note

Welcome to Thomas Jefferson High School’s production of “The Addams Family: A New Musical”!!

When I started looking at our options for this year’s musical, I had a number of shows that presented themselves, all with great potential for our Musical Theater scholars, but “The Addams Family” continually rose to the top of the list. At its core, Addams Family is about being true to your most authentic you, no matter what anyone else thinks, and learning to accept that which is different from ourselves and what is familiar/comfortable for us. It’s a difficult time to come of age in America, today, and young people face tons of pressure to conform in a variety of ways, and from a wide range of sources. As you watch the show, today, you’ll see several storylines weaving together around one central theme: the importance of healthy communication in relationships. I love seeing how the characters in the show work through their issues to find hope and understanding, with a little help from the “Family”.

Whether your help comes from biological or “found” family, present or ancestral, near or “a quarter of a million miles away”, we hope our interpretation of “The Addams Family” will bring you a smile in the darkness!
