Set against the backdrop of the Cold War-era 1980s, the ancient game of chess develops into a metaphor for romantic rivalries and political intrigue. The loutish American Grandmaster, the earnest Russian Champion, and a Hungarian-American chess second make their moves as their loyalties shift and they become pawns in a grander game. From Italy to Thailand we follow our players as they manipulate and are manipulated to the pulse of a monumental rock score created by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA and the award-winning lyricist Tim Rice. CHESS is a powerful and significant piece of theatre featuring the well-known songs “Anthem”, “I Know Him So Well”, and the international chart topper, “One Night in Bangkok”.

Third Wall Productions is a not for profit, 501(c) (3) organization, in Baltimore that provides education in the theatrical arts through live performances, workshops and youth summer stock program.
