About Introduction to the Michael Chekhov Technique

The objective of our level one training is to learn the tools of the Michael Chekov Technique and apply them to text for the first time. 

Classes will meet on Saturdays from 10:00am - 12:00pm

Your ONE-TIME enrollment gets you access to all four classes in this course. 

What YOU will need to bring: 

  • Students will need to memorize 3 lines to 60 seconds of a monologue. (Please bring a few physical copies for the class to take notes on!)
  • Wear comfy clothes that you can move in, as well as close-toed shoes. (No flip-flops!)
  • This class is BYOW. (Bring your own water)
  • There is no food in the theater BUT if you need to snack during this two-hour block, you can eat in the green room or the lobby.
  • It is suggested that students read “ON THE TECHNIQUE OF ACTING” by Michael Chekhov with a forward by Mala Powers prior to coming to class.

About The Instructor

Merri Brewer is an NMCA certified teacher, and formerly faculty for KD Conservatory
College of Film and Dramatic Arts in Dallas, Texas (primarily teaching the Chekhov
Technique and On Camera Acting and Improvisation). She also teaches acting as a
private coach, specializing in audition preparation, online coaching and improvisation. A
native Texan, currently residing in DFW, she currently serves as Managing Director of
Theatre Three, a live professional theatre in Uptown Dallas, and in the past served
as Producing Director of Creative Arts Theatre & School in Arlington, Texas. As an
actor, she has appeared in stage productions at Dallas Theater Center, Theatre Three,
Stage West and Echo Theatre, among others. Represented for broadcast work by The
Campbell Agency, she’s worked in a wide variety of film, industrial and commercial
productions. Holding a BFA from Texas Christian University in Theatre and Television,
she is filled with gratitude for the opportunities that NMCA continues to offer her.
