Peter and the Starcatcher Notes
Director's Note
When we are children, we don't realize just how much of life is still ahead of us. We don't know the possibilities of our future, but we dream anyway. We see the good things around us. We are taught the blessing of the Lord's love and how it should change our lives. We learn to hope and dream in this comfort, yet so many youthful dreams are considered "idealism" by a more cynical, longer lived group of people. To be honest, they are right. As children, we live in idealism. We believe people are going to care for us, until the opposite is shown. We believe that we can be the change that the world needs. In this play, the children believe the opposite. The world is harsh and grim for them until a little bit of light, of magic, enters, and they are transformed not only by freedom but by hope. They are exposed to goodness and kindness instead of selfishness. The children yearn for home, a word they do not quite understand, but they want it. Everyone wants something in this show: to be a hero, to protect Great Britain, or to find the perfect hero to his villain. When we grow up we don’t lose our dreams, we just have to make them a little bit smaller to feel as though we can accomplish them. But God is not a God of small dreams. - Elizabeth Miner
