Director
Darren Hengst
Mr. Hengst is in his 10th year as the Grace and Mahlon Buck Chair in Performing Arts at the Haverford School. Mr. Hengst teaches Theater Classes in the Upper School. He graduated with an MFA from the University of Illinois @ Urbana Champaign’s Professional Actor Training Program. A member of Actor’s Equity for almost 20 years, Mr. Hengst has performed on Philadelphia stages for the past 15 years. Some of his favorites productions were “Of Mice and Men” and “Les Miserables” at The Walnut Street Theater and “Sunday in the Park with George” and “Winesburg Ohio” at the Arden Theatre Company. Mr. Hengst is also a professional fight director and has directed stage combat scenes for numerous Philadelphia productions. He loves watching his students discover their passions in the Performing Arts and how the faculty works so hard to support and help them flourish on the stage. All his love to his wife Jacquellyne and his 3 children.
Music Director/Conductor
Matthew Mastronardi
Mr. Mastronardi is the Upper School Music teacher and Notables and Glee Club Director. He has been the Music Director for the Middle School’s productions of Seussical and Willy Wonka, as well as Upper School’s production of Peter and the Starcatcher. Matthew has appeared in many productions in the Philadelphia area. Some of his favorite credits include Peter and the Starcatcher at the Walnut Street Theatre, Man of La Mancha at Act II Playhouse, and 11th Hour Theatre Company’s Into the Woods starring opposite Mr. Hengst! You can see Matthew next at the Gretna Theatre music directing Honky Tonk Angels.
Production Manager
Dex Woodward
Mr. Dex Woodward serves as the production manager/technical director of Centennial Hall and all student shows; he is thrilled for the stage to come alive again this year with performances. Dex also works with the Haverford student stage crew on all aspects of the backstage production process and his previous credits include The Farnsworth Invention, Something Rotten!, Peter and the Starcatcher, The Three Musketeers, Willy Wonka, and Carousel.
Costume Design
Andrea Fox
This is Mrs. Fox's eighth season designing costumes for the Haverford School theatre productions. Past productions include: Something Rotten!, Peter and the Starcatcher, Billy Budd, Frost/Nixon, West Side Story, Seussical, Henry V, Newsies, Sweeney Todd, The Three Musketeers, Willy Wonka, and Carousel. After a year of a darkened theatre, she is looking forward to working with Mr. Hengst and the student actors once again. They are the reason she comes back to the Haverford School year after year.
Scenic Design
Victoria Gill-Gomez
Victoria Gill-Gomez serves as the Technical Assistant for Centennial Hall. They recently finished their undergraduate degree at Washington College on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Victoria is an emerging Philly-based scenic designer and technician. Previous collaborations include FringeArts, Theater Exile, Shakespeare in Clark Park, Quintessence Theatre Group, and Christ Church. This is their first year at Haverford and would like to thank the faculty and students for their support and dedication. Love to Shawn and Iz.
Assistant Director/Choreographer
Dorothy Brown
High school musicals (as choreographer): Something Rotten! and Carousel for Haverford, Anything Goes!, Fiddler on the Roof. Elementary and Middle School musicals: School House Rock, Jr., and original showcases for students in Musical Theatre classes. Dance and Theatre Faculty positions: Franklin School for the Performing Arts, AMJ Dance Center (both in Massachusetts), and Media Theatre Dance Studio. Dorothy has performed professionally in ballet, musical theatre, and children’s theatre productions in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Massachusetts. Ms. Brown’s formative dance training was with the Lori Ardis Ballet Company and later with Boston Ballet Company. Other training includes Master Ballet Classes with Melissa Hayden and Cheryl Maddeux Abbott, as well as tap study with Derek Wolshonak, Tim Millette, and Kelly Stamp. Dorothy studied acting with Sydney Kay and at Hedgerow Theatre. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Neumann University.
