Yonatan Esterkin
Yonatan Esterkin is a theater director, writer, translator and teacher based in Tel Aviv, Israel. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Philosophy from The Open University, MFA in Theatre Directing, and MA in Theatre Research, both from Tel Aviv University. He was the recipient of "Keren Sharet" and "Goethe Institute" scholarships for Theatre Experts in Berlin. After years of working at different magazines in Israel, he started to work as a theatre, director, teacher and translator in Beit Zvi Acting School, Nissan Nativ Acting School, Yoram Lewinstein Acting School and later in the Repertory Public Theatres in Israel such as Haifa Theatre (where he worked as writer and director and also as the head of international relations division); The Cameri Theatre (City Theatre of Tel Aviv and the biggest theatre in Israel), Habima (The Israeli National Theatre), The Yiddish Theatre of Israel, and others. He has worked as a lecturer about the Israeli theatre and society for different institutions such as The Teachers Association of Israel, The Media Tech Center in Holon, Beit Yad Lebanim Ranana, and more. He has also worked as a freelance director in Slovenia, directing Israeli plays in different public theatres, including the National Theatre. Two of the shows that were produced in Slovenia were The Jewish Dog and The Child Behind the Eyes, which were invited to take place in the United Solo Festival in New York and won awards and were also invited to play in many other countries around the world – India, Russia, China, Israel, England, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, and more.
