About Carmen

Tampa City Ballet is proud to unveil its latest visionary production: a fresh and invigorating adaptation of the classic opera Carmen. Based on a French novella and adapted into an opera by Georges Bizet in 1875, Carmen has long been celebrated for its dramatic intensity and captivating melodies. It still remains one of the most frequently performed operas worldwide.

In this tragic tale of love, jealousy and betrayal, the mesmerizing Marta Ortega (previously partnered in this role with world-renowned Carlos Acosta), breathes life into the bold and dangerously seductive Carmen. Tampa City Ballet’s adaptation delves into themes of personal freedom, power, control, and the often-devastating consequences of choices—both right and wrong. Every decision and action we take carries weight, reflecting the timeless truth that the human heart remains as unpredictable and potent as ever.

We are delighted to announce the return of Daniella Mass, whose exceptional operatic talents promise to elevate the production to new artistic heights.

Join us for a compelling and innovative experience that celebrates Carmen’s enduring spirit and the universal truths of human nature.
