About Water by the Spoonful
Water by the Spoonful is a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Quiara AlegrÃa Hudes ("In the Heights"). The second in her Elliot trilogy, it tells a dynamically modern story about healing, growth, and family--both found and blood.
Site admin Odessa aka Haikumom has saved hundreds of lives by being a mother and champion to those in recovery in the Narcotics Anonymous chatroom she moderates, but in her offline life she has an estranged relationship with her biological son. Elliot is a young Iraq War Marines veteran who was raised by Odessa's sister, Ginny, who has just died. Elliot is supported by his cousin, Yaz, and their relationship grounds him as they navigate their grief. Set across the world and online, this play reminds us all that amid loss, facing our past and fostering positive human connection can help us save ourselves.
Sunny Side Theatre Co
Sunny Side Theatre Co is a Black & API female owned theatre company organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in California. Founded in 2019, our organization's mission is to increase the representation of artists of color and mental health awareness in the Sacramento theatre community. Through researching, writing, and producing culturally relevant and authentic stage plays, Sunny creates an inclusive and evocative artistic space to which the public is invited.
