About RENT

"RENT: The Musical" is a rock musical by Jonathan Larson that follows a year in the lives of a group of young artists and friends struggling to survive and create in New York City’s East Village during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

At its heart, the story explores themes of love, friendship, creativity, poverty, and the impact of HIV/AIDS. The characters grapple with paying rent, pursuing their dreams, and finding meaning in the face of uncertainty and loss — all while celebrating life and community.

Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, RENT blends rock music with heartfelt storytelling, creating an energetic and emotional portrait of bohemian life and resilience.
