About Macbeth
Betrayal, murder, and madness!
This Fall at Stamford High School, we are presenting one of Shakespeare’s most gripping tragedies — Macbeth.
Imagine a dark world, influenced by goth, punk, and grunge style and aesthetics, horror and rock music, and colorful and intense lighting design. Sword fights and intense battles clash against the many moody and atmospheric settings from the forest and battlefields, to a witches cavern, and a tomb-like castle drenched in revenge plots, blood, and mystical manipulation.
Macbeth tells the tale of a valiant warrior whose hunger for power leads him down a dark path, as witches' prophecies twist his fate, and partner-in-crime, Lady Macbeth, lusts for even more than the crown. On his murderous conquest, Macbeth must grapple with the consequences of his bloody actions in this haunting piece of literary and dramatic history.
Strawberry Hill Players
As the drama club at Stamford High School, the Strawberry Hill Players are composed of very talented actors, singers, dancers, and all-around wonderful people (if we do say so ourselves)! The club involves two parts: first, the theater sector, in which performers, our costume crew, and tech troupe put on plays and musicals for the community to enjoy. Second, the Strawberry Hill Improv Players (SHIP) bring hilarious improv comedy to life in their productions! Each year we put together marvelous productions, including a fall play, Senior Scenes, Knight of Cabaret, and a spring musical. Recently, we have been recognized at the Stephen Sondheim Awards and Connecticut HALO competition. Our last two musicals, The Prom and Mamma Mia received a total of 14 nominations and won a total of FIVE Sondheim Awards for Best Student Sound Design, Best Supporting Actress, Best Choreography, and Best Ensemble and Best Leading Actress in a musical!
