It's time to carry the banner on your stage with Disney's Newsies! Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right!

Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience.

The Sparta Spotlight Players have been in existence since 2004 (previously Sparta Excalibur Players).  The mission of the Sparta Spotlight Players, along with the Sparta Theatre Booster Club, is to create opportunities for our students to participate in as many enriching, educational and inspirational theatrical experiences as possible. Our goal is to ENTERTAIN, EDUCATE, and ENRICH our students and community through theatrical experiences.

The Sparta Spotlight Players have been a part of the Overture Center's JERRY AWARDS program since the fall of 2018. They have been nominated for many awards and have had several recipients in each production. They have been honored to have several actors and directors receive awards and In 2023, they received Outstanding Musical for their production of The Addams Family, along with the entire production team receiving awards.

They are incredibly grateful for the support our school district and community members give our program! They could not have the sets, costumes, and props that they have if it wasn't for the generosity of everyone in our community!
