About Frankenstein: The Monster/The Man?

Frankenstein: The Monster/The Man?

Book and Music by Carol Weiss

An original musical based on Mary Shelley’s classic novel that begs the question -- can you tell the monster from the man? The show opens in the Villa Diodati, a summer rental of Lord Byron. On a stormy night Mary Godwin (Shelley) is among a party of Romance era poets and physicians telling stories to pass the time. This brilliant new work tells of the grief that motivates Victor Frankenstein’s work and of the despair and isolation that brings revenge from his creation. Los Angeles based playwright and composer Carol Weiss will collaborate with the creative artists of the Sopris Theatre Company to bring this original musical to life.

Sopris Theatre Company at CMC

The Colorado Mountain College Theatre has been in existence for over forty years, first under the direction of Tom Cochran until 2007, then Gary Ketzenbarger until 2020. Brad Moore is now at the helm. In 2009 our Associate of Arts with an emphasis in Theatre was instituted, with students able to take a degree in that subject area. With the passage of the state-wide articulation agreement, students majoring in Theatre are now able to transfer their AA degree in full to virtually all the four-year Theatre programs in the state of Colorado.

CMC Theatre changed its name to Sopris Theatre Company at Colorado Mountain College to reflect our hybrid model of students and community members working together. This transformation reflects not only the growing breadth of the Theatre program, but also the nature of the company itself, which functions both educationally and as a true theatre of the community. CMC students and Roaring Fork Valley artists work side-by-side as actors, directors, designers, stage managers, and technicians. This collaboration between students and local professionals enhances intergenerational learning, leading the Sopris Theatre Company at Colorado Mountain College to new heights worthy of its namesake.
