How Do You Create a Flop on Broadway?

Well, If you’re Mel Brooks, you start with a scheming con man (Max Bialystock), add in a mousy accountant (Leo Bloom), then introduce them to a pigeon-loving Nazi and his script for a gloriously offensive musical, “Springtime for Hitler,"  and finally, sprinkle in an eager blonde bombshell!  It’s a recipe for failure. But in this laugh-out-loud comedy, unexpected success throws Max and Leo into a downward spiral, with unexpected consequences.  Crazy caricatures and camp spectacle come together to produce a wonderfully tasteless evening of entertainment. The in-your-face humor includes high-kicking stormtroopers, a flock of pigeons, hand puppets, and little old ladies dancing with walkers. It’s sure to be a flop! We mean, hit!

Founded in 2005, the Sierra School of Performing Arts began with a simple yet ambitious goal: to provide a creative space where children and adults from Reno and nearby areas could grow and excel under the guidance of professional theater teaching artists. Our journey started with summer camps and theater classes, leading to our first productions featuring both youth and adults, supported by a dedicated all-volunteer crew. Fast forward to two decades later, and SSPA now stages large-scale, professional-quality Broadway shows every summer at the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch, and delightful youth productions each winter. Our casts and crews showcase the finest local talent from the Truckee Meadows region. We also continue to nurture artistic growth through our ongoing theater camps, classes, and workshops for participants of all ages.
