About Anything Goes

Set sail on a wave of comedy, romance, and irresistible showmanship with Anything Goes, one of the most enduring and joyfully chaotic musicals of the American theatre. Filled with tap dancing sailors, clever disguises, star crossed lovers, and a notorious gangster in clerical disguise, this musical comedy classic turns a transatlantic crossing into a whirlwind of mistaken identities and musical magic.

The story follows nightclub star Reno Sweeney, lovestruck broker Billy Crocker, heiress Hope Harcourt, and the endlessly unlucky Moonface Martin as they all board the S.S. American. Billy stows away to win Hope's heart before she marries another man, but his plan quickly spirals into mayhem. With Reno's help and a shipful of eccentric passengers, romance is derailed, revived, and reimagined through fast paced farce, big dance breaks, and unforgettable melodies.

Anything Goes first premiered on Broadway in 1934, featuring music and lyrics by Cole Porter and a book by Guy Bolton, P. G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay, and Russel Crouse. A hit from the start, the show became known for its clever wordplay, glittering score, and high energy tap numbers. Over the decades, it has been revived multiple times, each production reimagining and refining the story while preserving Porter's signature wit and iconic songs like "I Get a Kick Out of You," "You're the Top," "Blow, Gabriel, Blow," and the showstopping finale, "Anything Goes."

The musical's most celebrated revivals, including the 1987 production starring Patti LuPone and the 2011 production starring Sutton Foster, introduced fresh choreography, updated scripts, and a renewed appreciation for Porter's masterful score. These revivals helped cement Anything Goes as a timeless favorite for audiences of all ages.

With its blend of classic Broadway charm, tap driven spectacle, laugh out loud humor, and swooning romance, Anything Goes continues to prove why it remains one of the great treasures of musical theatre.

Join us aboard the S.S. American for a high spirited voyage where love triumphs, laughter takes the lead, and truly anything goes.

Challenging Academics

Following a proven college preparatory curriculum, our students immerse themselves in hands-on learning opportunities, take college-level courses, and establish meaningful relationships with faculty mentors. We take a 21st-century approach to learning; rather than rote memorization and standardized test preparation, our students learn by conducting research, writing persuasive arguments, thinking critically, honing their study habits and managing their free time – all skills they will need to succeed in college.

Keeping Balance

Our commitment to a balanced education means we offer a breadth of arts and athletics opportunities, supported by top-notch facilities. Students can also explore their passions in more than 50 different student clubs, such as Science Olympiad or service learning. Many students travel the world through our global and off-campus programs whether in one of four international exchange programs or as a Parkin Fellow.

Cultivating Respect and Leadership

The mutual respect faculty and students have for each other is exemplified in our culture. As a prep school in Pennsylvania, we believe students have a voice and deserve the opportunity to lead alongside teachers, and they serve as voting members of our academic, admissions and discipline committees. Faculty advisors meet weekly with their advisees, and teachers and students converse while walking around the quad or enjoying lunch together. We are a close-knit community, grounded in our five Guiding Principles of honesty, kindness, responsibility, respect and safety.

Boarding

Approximately 15 percent of students participate in our boarding program five or seven days a week. Whether playing studying together in the dorms or exploring Pittsburgh on weekends, boarders gain responsibility and independence, preparing them for college life.

College and Beyond

Our three full-time college counselors ensure students find a place where they will thrive. Our alumni achieve at top colleges and find success in a variety of professions around the world.
