Music Director
Jeff Gross
Jeff Gross considers himself to be a very lucky man fortunate enough to find fulfillment from his two greatest passions: teaching and performing. He has been a part of the Shady Side community since 2011 having started out teaching Middle School Chorus and Strings, was Director of Admission there for a while, and this is his first year directing the choral and strings ensembles here at the Senior School. He finds the most difficult adjustment has been no longer having any height advantage over his students. Gross has performed over 30 leading roles in opera, operetta, and musical theater with Microscopic Opera, Quantum Theatre, The Theatre Factory, Pittsburgh Savoyards, Pittsburgh Opera, Undercroft Opera, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Greensburg American Opera, and Chatham Baroque. These days the majority of his performing is with the Pittsburgh Opera Chorus, the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, and Voces Solis, a semi-professional chamber chorus. He is immensely grateful to his students and his fellow crew here in the Hillman for the very warm welcome he has experienced this year.

Drums and Percussion
Louis Ye
Louis Ye (Form VI) is an independent singer-songwriter as well as a multi-instrumentalist. His drumming lessons when he was 5 etched the dynamics of drumming into his head long before he could remember the boredom of playing those rudiments to a metronome. Despite giving up right after studying for just a year, he found his way back to music in middle school and started his own band in Fuzhou, China as the drummer. It all went crazy right after that: learning every instrument there is in the band so that he could record a demo for the band, coming up with original music for the band to play, and learning how to mix and produce his own music... It couldn't be sooner that he realized that music has become a part of his life. Naturally, after becoming a part of the Shady Side community his junior year of high school, he continued to share his passion in music with others. He is the bass player for the jazz big band and the drummer for jazz combo. He also played the guitar for pit orchestra last year and is playing the drums this year.

It has also allowed Natalie to meet new people and form new friendships.
