About Ciclovia: The Game Project

Ciclovia: The Game Project

Ciclovia: ‘The Game’ Project marks a thrilling collaboration between Seed Art Share artists and the world premiere of Bekah Brunstetter’s ‘The Game’, inviting young participants aged 8-14 to embark on a creative journey. Set against the backdrop of Carrboro's Open Streets Festival and PlayMakers Repertory Company, this innovative project aims to redefine public spaces through interactive storytelling.

Rooted in the concept of reclaiming streets for recreational purposes, Ciclovia traces its origins to the Ciclovia movement, which began in Bogotá, Colombia, in the 1970s. Initially conceived as a response to urban congestion and pollution, Ciclovia transformed major thoroughfares into car-free zones, inviting residents to walk, cycle, and socialize freely. Since then, Ciclovia has sparked a global resurgence, inspiring cities worldwide to embrace similar initiatives in a bid to promote community engagement, health, and sustainability.

In this immersive experience, participants will navigate a "choose your own adventure" style game, unfolding across five distinctive stops within festival and theatre spaces. Guided by nine unique story tracks, audiences will be empowered to shape the narrative's outcome, selecting alternate endings that reflect their choices and perspectives. From whimsical encounters to thought-provoking dilemmas, each storyline will explore the theme of reclaiming public streets, encouraging players to envision new possibilities for urban landscapes.

At the heart of Ciclovia: ‘The Game’ lies a 4-day camp where participants will collaborate with Seed Art Share artists, crafting the game's storyline and interactive elements. Through guided prompts and creative exercises, campers will contribute their ideas and insights, infusing the experience with their unique perspectives. Supported by the Orange County Arts Commission and the North Carolina Arts Council, this camp offers young minds a platform to express themselves, fostering creativity, collaboration, and community spirit.

Ciclovia: ‘The Game’ unfolds across multiple dates and locations, inviting audiences to join the adventure at PlayMakers Repertory Company, The Arts Center of Carrboro, and the Open Streets Festival. From March 25th to April 14th 2024, participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in this dynamic fusion of theatre and gaming, celebrating the power of imagination and collective storytelling. Ciclovia: ‘The Game’ promises an unforgettable experience, where every choice shapes the destiny of the streets and the community at large.
