About Into the Woods

INTO THE WOODS

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

Book by James Lapine

STORY: James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Ramsey High School Drama Club

The Ramsey High School Drama Club produces three major productions per year: Fall Play, Spring Musical, and Spring Cabaret. We are officially part of the International Thespian Society (Troupe #5838).

Our Troupe recently competed at the NJ Thespian Festival. Our One-Act The Candidate was rated as “Superior” and has been invited to perform at the International Thespian Festival (ITF) to represent New Jersey in the Chapter Select category. This production involved the entire Drama Workshop class (our Advanced Theatre course at RHS) and numerous students were given special honors: Superior Leading Actor - Madison Sovak and Superior Supporting Actors - Lucas Abraham, Myah Shellman, and Chloe Yi, and Superior Student Direction - Lucas Abraham and Emily Kenny. Additionally, Madison Sovak and Maria Papson have also qualified for competition in Musical Theatre Solo at ITF this summer at Indiana University in Bloomington, IL.

Building on the successful Theatre exploratory at Smith Middle School, changes to the course offerings in the Theatre Department at RHS. There will now be TWO intro-level course options for students in the RHS Theatre Department. Speech and Drama will remain largely the same and is designed for the general student population and maintain an emphasis on public speaking. In addition, we are now offering intro level Theatre Arts I, which is geared towards students who already know that they have a deeper interest in acting and theatre. Both Theatre Arts I and Speech and Drama will serve as pre-reqs for Theater Arts II. Students go on to enroll in the Drama Workshop course.
