Othello Cast
ShaRod Collins (Othello)ShaRod is real excited to be playing Othello in his second production with Brevity Shakespeare! For the last six years, ShaRod has been crafting a life of radical art with former activist organization Staying Power as a writer, director, poet, and performer. Additionally, ShaRod has been working as the director at Pathways High School on original shows. This production of Othello is radical all the same. This that blood work. Abundance, y'all.
LeVale Walker (Iago)LeVale graduated from Central Michigan University with a BFA in Musical Theatre, where he performed in shows such as Dancing at Lughnasa (Brian Friel) and Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 (Anna Deavere Smith). Walker spent his college days acting, directing, and performing in improv & a cappella groups. Since then, he has performed in shows like Twelfth Night and Something Rotten with Festival 56.
Indigo Devito (Desdemona)This is Indigo's first show with Brevity Shakespeare & PTD! Indigo is currently a student at Henry Ford College where they study Theatre. They have performed in such shows as Dear Harvey (Anne Kronnenberg) and Torn Apart, Together. Indigo is originally from Illinois and spends their days off writing, playing tabletop games, and snuggling with their cat. They'd like to say thank you to their parents and sister who never stopped supporting them and taught them anything is possible.
Karrie Waarala (Emilia)This is Karrie's first time performing Shakespeare, and she is delighted that she gets to do so in this partnership between two great Ypsilanti theatre companies. She has previously appeared onstage in several PTD productions including Hay Fever (Judith Bliss), Perfect Arrangement (Barbara Grant), and most recently A Very Shakespeare Christmas (Joan). Karrie would like to thank the fabulous cast and crew for making this tragedy a joy to be a part of, and Jerry for being a way better husband than Iago.
Andrew Saint John (Cassio)Fresh off his gangster noir themed summer production with Livonia Shakespeare in the Park (Comedy of Errors), Andrew is thrilled to jump right into the next bard play with PTD/Brevity’s Othello! A Dearborn native, Andrew has long enjoyed the rich community of theatres Michigan offers. This is his first time with PTD, and he is grateful to them and Brevity director Karl for this opportunity. And thank you so much for taking the time to see Othello.
Cameron Graham (Roderigo)Cameron is excited to be a part of his first show with Brevity Shakespeare and PTD. Graduating from Eastern Michigan University with a B.A. in Theatre Arts, Cameron has credits as an actor, writer, and director. He has worked frequently with Matrix Theatre Company, UMGASS, Black and Brown Theatre, Bug Pit Collaborative Arts, and Actors Studio at Pathways. He thanks his cast, friends, and family for their support.
Beth Duey (Brabantio)Beth has a degree in Drama from the University of Michigan. She now works as a paralegal by day, actor and prop designer by night. No stranger to Shakespeare, her past roles include Claudius from Hamlet (Carriage House Theater), Bardolph in The Merry Wives of Windsor (Brevity Shakespeare), and “Sir” Nathaniel in Love’s Labour’s Lost (Shakespeare in the Arb). She wishes to acknowledge all her beloveds: family, friends, her boyfriend Kyle, and Bunsen, the most interesting cat in the world.
Michael Jewett (Duke)Michael is best known as a longtime radio host on WEMU, the public radio station from Eastern Michigan University. Theater is a relatively newfound passion for him. Michael was recruited by Karl Sikkenga/Brevity Shakespeare just a few short years ago. He's previously appeared in As You Like It, Richard III, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. This is his first show with PTD.
Weena Ekechukwu (Bianca)Weena is tickled rogue to make her theatrical debut as Bianca in Othello. After her time behind the curtain with PTD, most recently on Welcome to Paradise, she’s reveling in the chance to stir a little mischief on stage. She thanks her family and friends for their unwavering support and gives them fair warning: keep an eye out for the green-eyed monster, because jealousy loves the drama as much as she does.
Laura Bird (Armino)Laura is a retired theater educator who has served on PTD's Board of Directors for over a decade now. She enjoys directing and designing scenery and, on occasion, acting with the company. Laura has had a blast working with Karl on the production. She's delighted to be working with Brevity Shakespeare veterans, PTD stalwarts, and some newcomers to our bands of players. She hopes you enjoy the show and that you come back soon.
Dusty Ladwig (Montano)Dusty is a Personal Banker by day and a Theater Performer by night, like a really strange superhero (kind of). Some of their favorite credentials include Myrtle Mae Simmons in Harvey, Wyrd Sister in That Scottish Play, and Hortensia in The Taming of the Shrew. They are very excited to take on the role of Montano. Endless thanks to their friends and family, their husband Steven, and their cat Sneep Snoop who helped run lines with them long into the night.
Dinah Tutein (Lodovico)Dinah was last seen as Peter Quince in Container Globe's production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. With Brevity, she was Alice in The Merry Wives of Windsor and Baptista in The Taming of The Shrew (Dude). She promises to stop annoying Karl with her lute obsession... maybe.
Murphy Austin (Lorenzo)Othello is Murphy’s first production with PTD and with Brevity Shakespeare. In 2024, he re-entered theatrical work with a role in a DIY production of Antigone (Claudia Grace Pierce). Murphy is a first year Master of Social Work student at the University of Michigan specializing in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy. On weekends he can be found brewing and selling tea at locally owned TeaHaus Ann Arbor.
Muhammad Abdul-Quddus (Gratiano)Muhammad was born in Farmington Hills. As a child, he was fascinated with movies and TV shows and would occasionally recreate scenes from his favorite movies. While acting wasn’t his first option as a career, it was the one that spoke the most. “I still recall that feeling when I realized I wanted to be an actor.” He attended Henry Ford College, graduating with an Associate in Arts. Currently, he is attending Eastern Michigan University to obtain his Bachelor’s.
