About Fairy Tales in Opera

Fairy Tales in Opera is an interactive recital for children. A fairy has lost her memory and cannot find her fairy tale! As we visit various opera fairy tales and hear some famous tunes, such as Nessun Dorma from Turandot and Song to the Moon from Rusalka, we will help our fairy find her fairy tale with some fun musical activities! This project is made possible in part with funds from Creative Engagement, a regrant program supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by LMCC

Prelude Opera

Opera has connected people throughout history as a medium for human expression and inspiration across cultures. Diverse stories from around the globe are told through music - using the human voice as the primary instrument - to inspire healing, hope, and wonder.

The mission of Prelude Opera is to introduce opera to children. Research shows that learning about music at a young age contributes significantly to childhood growth and academic achievement. Prelude Opera provides opportunities for children to experience accessible live performances while keeping ticket costs low and affordable for families of all socio-economic backgrounds.

Based in the culturally rich neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City, Prelude Opera presents family events for the local and broader community.  Performing works by both historical and living composers, Prelude’s family-friendly operas use colorful costumes and scenery presented in neighborhood venues. The performances employ local talented professional artists and are supported by local institutions and opera fans. My vision is for Prelude Opera to be a prelude to a lifelong enjoyment of the transformative experience of opera.
