THE SETTING

It is September 11, 2006, the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and a group of survivors and others who lost a loved one that day, gather in New York City to share their stories for the first time in public.

THIS PRODUCTION

This is a special performance in remembrance of the 25th Anniversary of the events of 9/11, honoring those we lost, those who survived, and the heroic first responders, firefighters, police and everyday Americans whose actions helped to save lives that day.

100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Since 9/11, T2T has been helping America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building specially-adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. Children of the Foundation’s home recipients are offered full scholarships for undergraduate degrees and accredited trade school programs, helping secure their futures. T2T is also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and helping America to Never Forget September 11, 2001.

Playhouse West is a training ground for actors, writers and directors founded by Robert Carnegie and Jeff Goldblum. Since 1981, Playhouse West has been highly regarded and recommended by industry professionals as one of the premiere acting schools in the country. Many of our members have gone on to achieve success at all levels of the entertainment industry, from Academy Award nominations to Golden Globes, from film producers to creators of television shows, from starring in motion pictures and television to Emmy Awards for acting and writing, to starring on Broadway. PW alumni includes James Franco, Ashley Judd, Scott Caan, Sean Astin, Mark Pellegrino, Tessa Thompson, Scott Haze, Jim Parrack, Cassidy Freeman, Jean Elie and many more. We are very proud of the fact that Playhouse West is always among the top programs in having the highest rate of working actors in film and television.

Tony Savant, Senior Instructor, and long-time Artistic Director at Playhouse West in L.A., one of the fore- most respected acting teachers in the country, moved to the area and founded an east coast branch of the school, Playhouse West~Philadelphia in August 2012.  As an adjunct to our on-going acting classes, we produce plays using exclusively our current students, which are directed by Playhouse West staff members and students.

Modeled upon the Group Theatre of the thirties, and owing much to its founders, Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler, Harold Clurman, and Elia Kazan, Playhouse West has been dedicated to keeping alive and promulgating a passion for realistic acting and the presentation of ensemble productions that address the current social moment.

Playhouse West is also intrinsic in the production of film projects, from feature lengths to shorts. Since 1997 we present an annual three day Film Festival featuring projects our members have played a role in generating. In total, over 350 films which have premiered or screened at our Film Festival have gone on to win over 500 awards at other festivals around the world.
