About SAVANNAH

Survivor of two unstable and loveless relationships, a woman has begun to realize she has value and self-worth.  Although she has discovered her inner strength, she has to make a hard decision that may change the trajectory of her life.

Notes About the Play

The production is the world premiere of this original work by Reba Fladger.  The character of Savannah grew out of an advanced acting exercise in character development in our classes at Playhouse West-Philadelphia.  The character was developed by Ms. Fladger through a series of improvisational exercises over several months.  She loved playing the character and saw potential in telling a bigger, more specific story, so Ms. Fladger then continued to develop and write the play for over a year and a half.  We are so pleased to be able to present this play, and this character, to the public.

Playhouse West-Philadelphia

Playhouse West is a training ground for actors, writers and directors founded by Robert Carnegie and Jeff Goldblum.  Since 1981, Playhouse West has been highly regarded and recommended by industry professionals as one of the premiere acting schools in the country. Many of our members have gone on to achieve success at all levels of the entertainment industry, from Academy Award nominations to Golden Globes, from film producers to creators of television shows, from starring in motion pictures and television to Emmy Awards for acting and writing, to starring on Broadway.  PW alumni includes James Franco, Ashley Judd, Scott Caan, Sean Astin, Mark Pellegrino, Tessa Thompson, Jim Parrack, Cassidy Freeman, Scott Haze, Scott Wolf, Kylie Bunbury, Lake Bell, Michael Trevino, Chace Crawford, Heather Graham, Jordana Brewster, Alain Uy, Jean Elie, and many more.  We are very proud of the fact that Playhouse West is always among the top programs in having the highest rate of working actors in film and television.

Playhouse West’s unique process was brought to Philadelphia by long-tenured senior instructor and Artistic Director, Tony Savant, in August, 2012.  Mr. Savant is one of the foremost respected acting teachers in the country – who has trained hundreds of working actors, and many of the top actors in film and television.  No teacher in Philadelphia has taught more working actors, and actors who work at the highest levels of industry, than Mr. Savant.  His students can be seen working in major motion pictures and starring in television shows every night of the week.  After almost 30 years in Los Angeles, he established the Playhouse West-Philadelphia branch in 2012.

As an adjunct to our on-going acting classes, we produce plays using exclusively our current students, which are directed by Playhouse West staff members and students. Modeled upon the Group Theatre of the thirties, and owing much to its founders, Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler, Harold Clurman, and Elia Kazan, Playhouse West has been dedicated to keeping alive and promulgating a passion for realistic acting and the presentation of ensemble productions that address the current social moment.

Playhouse West is also intrinsic in the production of film projects, from feature lengths to shorts.  Since 1997 we present an annual three day Film Festival featuring projects our members have played a role in generating.  In total, over 350 films which have premiered or screened at our Film Festival have gone on to win over 500 awards at other festivals around the world.

Playhouse West - Experience, Knowledge and Success you can count on!  A leader in the industry for over 40 years!
